Cross Country Competes at States, McDermott Takes 1st

On Saturday, November 11, 2017, the Bel Air Cross Country team competed at the MPSSAA 3A State Championship at Hereford High School where Senior, Kieran McDermott was first to finish the entire course with a season record time of 15:59.19.

Bel Air Boys’ Cross Country came in 6th place out of 21 teams with a score of 178. There were 3 season records by Kieran McDermott, Ethan Gray with a time of 17:25.81, and Nick Hammond with a time of 18:27.01. There were also 2 personal records by Andrew Plowman with a time of 17:42.61, and Benton Duvall with a time of 18:32.78.

Bel Air Girls’ Cross Country came in 7th out of 17 teams with a score of 176. There was one personal record by Rebekah Cross with a time of 20:22.18. There was one season record by Caroline Fallace with a time of 23:24.88.

“I am really happy my team was able to make it to states this year, we did great and I couldn’t be any happier or more proud.” says Sophomore, Rebekah Cross.

Kieran McDermott has worked extremely hard all four years of high school, pushing himself past his limits every day. He has gotten a total of four personal records throughout his entire high school cross country career, with it all culminating in his State championship win.

“I am really proud of myself and everyone on the team. We had an amazing season and I got to finish off with placing 1st in the State Championship!” says McDermott.
