On October 9, 2017 the Bel Air Cheerleaders took the mat to compete in their first competition of the season at Edgewood High School for the Edgewood Cheerleading Invitational.

The Bel Air Junior Varsity cheerleaders placed 3rd out of 6 teams. During their performance, they had 2 stunt falls and 1 stunt bobble.

In the Junior Varsity category, there were 6 teams competing, Edgewood, Eastern Tech, Rising Sun, Bel Air, Liberty and C. Milton Wright. The top three teams were Bel Air, Rising Sun, and C. Milton Wright. C. Milton Wright Junior Varsity came out on top out of the 6 teams competing.

“I don’t think we did the best we could have. We have the capability to be absolutely amazing and I can’t wait to show the other teams what were made of at the next competition!” said Meliyah Fasion, a Junior Varsity cheerleader from Bel Air.

The Varsity cheerleaders placed 2nd out of 15 teams. The teams competing were Joppatowne, Rising Sun, Havre De Grace, Pikesville, St. Charles, C. Milton Wright, McDonough, Patterson Mill, Elkton, Edgewood, Bel Air, Perry Hall, Eastern Tech, Kent Island, and Liberty. The top three teams were C. Milton Wright, Bel Air, and Kent Island.

“I thought we did really well! We only had two stunt groups in the air when we were normally supposed to have three, and we still placed 2nd! I am so proud of our team!” said Maddie Humes, a member of the Bel Air Varsity cheerleading team.

The girls are working every day to get the first place win at their upcoming competitions.
