On Thursday, Jan. 26, 2017, the Varsity Cheerleaders took the mat at Harford Community College’s APGFCU Arena for the UCBAC Championship.

The team took home first place for Harford County, along with winning the title of UCBAC Champions with a score of 122.4, beating the second-place team, the Patterson Mill Huskies by more than five points.

One of the team’s major goals for the season was to have tight, crisp movements and convince the judges they are the best with their high spirit and enthusiasm during performances. They knew their hard work had paid off when they hit a stellar routine scoring a 9.7 on cheer, and a perfect 10 on dance, leaving the team in shock and the coach almost in tears.

Riley Kenney, a member of the team, says, “I’m so proud of our team for all the time and effort we have put in! After all the hardships, we have endured; whether it was illnesses or injuries, it was all worth it.”

In first place was your very own Bel Air Bobcats with a score of 122.4, Patterson Mill took home second place with a score of 117.05, followed by the third-place team, C. Milton Wright, with a score of 108.85.

“I was very proud of how the team grew to believe in each other and showed the hard work was worth it.” Coach Karen Sobka states. “I’m hoping they continue to strive for greatness and never settle for anything less than their best!”

The Bel Air Varsity Cheerleaders are now guaranteed a spot at Semifinals on Feb. 11, so come on out to support and show your Bobcat spirit!
