On Friday, Dec. 16, 2016, the Boys’ Varsity Ice Hockey Team traveled to Laurel to face off against the Chessie Bayhawks.

In the first period, the Bobcats got off to a quick 1-0 start off a wrist shot from senior Ty Mowery. Chessie responded quickly to tie the game up at one.

Mid-way through the first period, the Bobcats started to light up the Bayhawks with three unanswered goals from junior Evan Bergquist, senior Jack Fitzgerald, and junior Aaron Strader. In the second period, Evan Bergquist put in his second of the night as he skated right around the defense to put the puck in the bottom left. Chessie showed that they had some life in them as they put in a goal of their own to cut the deficit down to three.

“We came out on fire in the first period,” says Evan Bergquist. “In the second, we started to slow down a little, but then quickly changed that and finished the game strong.”

In the third period, Evan Bergquist completed the hat trick with a goal that went top shelf on the goalie. Chessie scored late in the third, but it was a little too late, as the Bobcats captured their third win of the season by a final score of 6-3.

“We knew that we were the underdogs in this game, but that didn’t slow us down. We played hard until the final whistle and we came out on top.” Bergquist states.

The Bobcats look to capture another victory as they travel to Laurel, to face the Annapolis Panthers on Monday, Dec. 19.
