Battle of the ‘Cats: Hockey Edition

On Friday, Dec. 2, the Boys’ Varsity Ice Hockey Team traveled to Bowie to take on the Arundel Wildcats.

The Bobcats planned to seek revenge against the Wildcats for last year’s playoff lost to them, but things did not go their way as the Wildcats got off to a quick 1-0 lead. Later on in the period, the Bobcats received two penalties, which cost them both times, as Arundel jumped to a 3-0 lead.

Late in the first, Bel Air got one back from senior Jack Fitzgerald, who scored off a rebound to cut the deficit to two. In the second period, Bel Air got yet another penalty which cost them once again to put the Wildcats up 4-1.

“Penalties were killing us all night long.” Says junior Evan Bergquist. “Every time we got a penalty, they capitalized on it.”

Midway through the second period, Arundel buried their fifth goal of the game to give them a commanding lead of 5-1. Bel Air responded late in the second with a goal from Evan Bergquist off a breakaway. In the third period, Bel Air started to show some light with a goal off a rebound from senior Ty Mowery, but it was a little too late as the Wildcats skated away with the victory, 5-3.

“Everything went wrong for us in this game. We weren’t skating, we weren’t making tape-to-tape passes, we weren’t physical, we didn’t play well defensively, and we just couldn’t stay out of the box.” Bergquist states.

Bel Air’s next game is on Friday, Dec. 16, as they travel to Laurel to face off against Chessie.
