Boys’ Soccer: Bel Air v. Broadneck

On Sept. 6, 2016, the Bel Air Bobcats Boys’ Soccer Team took down the team ranked twelfth in the state, Broadneck, 3-0 at Bobcat Stadium.

The Bobcats, ranked #17 in the state, came into Tuesday’s game with a record of 2-0, having edged Eastern Tech 1-0 and glided past Patapsco 3-0. Bel Air continued to ride this wave of momentum into the Broadneck game. Senior Gray Harper and Junior Vince Rose controlled the midfield for the majority of the game, and the team goalie, Senior Cam Riley, made a few incredible saves to keep the Cats on the front foot.

The Bruins came into Tuesday’s matchup with a record of 1-1. They needed extra time to beat AACHS 2-1 away from home. However, they fell to #2 Archbishop Curley 3-1. Broadneck was hoping to get back on track Tuesday night before facing their local rival Annapolis the next day later.

“We knew it was gonna be a tough game going and everyone did what they had to do to get the job done,” says Senior Captain Ryan Albright. “Couldn’t be happier with the result.”

Albright dazzled the crowd throughout. After Junior Vince Rose put in the first goal of the game right before the half, Albright took over the attacking, scoring twice in the second half to secure the incredible victory for the Bobcats. In defense, the team was able to keep the clean sheet for the third time this season. They were led by Seniors Tyler Hutchens and Noah Rusinko.

Bel Air Head Coach, Dom Rose, was very pleased after the win, stating, “Tonight’s game was huge test for us this season, Broadneck is a top team every year in the state playoffs.  Ryan Albright, Vice Rose, Cam Riley, and the entire team stepped up tonight and led us to a 3-0 victory. This is a statement game for us, letting every other team out there know, we are for real!”

Bel Air travels to #16 Severna Park on Thursday, Sept. 8, to take on the Falcons. Due to the construction of the new school and lack of lights, the game will be held at 3:30 p.m. The Girls’ Soccer game will be played immediately after the conclusion of the Boys’ Soccer game. Bel Air continues their quest for their first state championship in school history, so be sure to come out and support them!
