Girls’ Lacrosse Falls to Howard, but Defeats Edgewood

On Wednesday, March 30, 2016, the Bel Air Girls’ Lacrosse Team played in their home opener against Howard. In the competitive game, the Bobcats came up short, losing 5-9.

In the first half, the Bobcats came out strong, winning the first draw. Although, Howard had the first goal. There were two Bobcat goals in the first half by Sophomore Julia Henry and Freshman Grace Wehland. Howard scored five times, making the halftime score 2-5 Howard.

In the second half, Howard came out hard and scored two goals on the Bobcats. After a time out, Bel Air retaliated and scored two goals by Junior Anna Farley and Julia Henry. Howard was then able to match those two goals, and at the end of the game, Senior Captain Bekah Riley scored for the Bobcats.

Senior Captain Natalie Neff said, “It was a competitive game, but now we know what we need to work on as a team and will make changes.”

On Friday, April 1, 2016, the team played the first half of a home game against Edgewood. Due to lightning, the second half of the game was postponed to Monday, April 4, 2016. The Bobcats shut out the Rams, winning 14-0.

In the first half, the Bobcats came out hard, scoring 9 goals on the Rams. The score at halftime was 9-0.

In the second half, despite the rainy conditions and weekend delay, the Bobcats kept up their momentum and shut out the Rams with a final score of 14-0. Henry led the team with 3 goals, followed by 2 goals from Senior Emily McQuay and one goal each from Riley, Senior Captain Anna Wehland, Farley, Junior Karsyn Shek, Junior Lexi Strobel, Sophomore Lauren Asher, Sophomore Jenna Signorelli, Freshmen Katie McGrain and G. Wehland

Wehland said, “Overall, it was an interesting game to say the least, after having to battle through storm delays and playing on two separate days, but we are really starting to look and play like a team! We still have a lot of room to grow, but the Edgewood game shows a very promising future for us and I’m very excited to see us improve even more!”

The Bobcats will next face Patterson Mill at Patterson on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 6:45 p.m. Come out and support your Bobcats!
