Boys’ Lacrosse Wins Against the Curley Friars

On Tuesday, March 22, the Bel Air Boys’ Lacrosse team hosted the Curley Friars to open up a much anticipatedseason, and came away victorious, with a score of 11-7.

It was the season opener for the Bobcats, and they came out firing on all cylinders. At the end of the first quarter, they found themselves ahead 4-0. They continued the dominance into the second quarter, scoring 6, but gave up 3 goals after making careless mistakes with penalties. At the half, Bel Air was up 10-3.

Junior Josh Carlon said, “I think in the first half, getting off to such a good start pumped everyone up and we just kept capitalizing on every opportunity we had.”

From the time the horn sounded to begin the second half and until the end of the game Curley came back to life and gave Bel Air a run for their money. They outscored the ‘Cats 4-1 in the second half. The Bobcats stood tall defensively the whole game and didn’t give the Friars many chances to score, while the offense was hot and moved the ball around very effectively. It was penalties and little mistakes by the Bobcats that allowed Curley to get close to Bel Air.

Carlon commented, “For the second half I guess we just tried to play more controlled. Curley’s defense pressed out a lot more because they knew they needed to get up on the scoreboard.”

Bel Air pulled away with the win, and a large chunk of that credit has to be given to Junior Goaltender Chris Hagy. He was arguably what kept Curley from coming back all the way, making 15 saves en route to a victory. Senior Dylan Bielatowicz had a monster game offensively, scoring 5 goals and recording an assist. Attackman Chase Oberlin heavily contributed to the success of the team, dishing out 2 assists and found the back of the goal once. Senior midfielder Justin Calabreese also had a solid performance, scoring twice and tallying one assist. He and fellow senior Evan Hulse shared success at the face off X which helped the Bobcats get more possessions and set up more scoring opportunities.

Bel Air will face Hereford on Thursday March 24, at Bobcat Stadium, and they will look to carry the momentum over and win that game. They can’t do it without support from the Bobcat student section, so come kick off spring break with your Boys’ Lacrosse team and cheer them on as they look to start off the season 2-0!
