On Saturday, Jan. 16, the Bel Air High School Winter Cheer team met at Hereford High School for their first competition of the season, leaving with a victory of 1st place.

Bobcat cheer had high hopes for this season after bringing home a state championship in Fall last year. The team was led by Senior Captains Maddy Alascio, Sarah Fleischmann, and Annie Zaborowski.

After dealing with an injury just a few short days before the competition, the team had to make some last minute decisions, upping the stakes for the competition.

“We had an injury 3 days before competition and we had to completely change things in our routine.  Everyone was super stressed but had faith that we would pull it off as a team, and to come out on top was extremely rewarding,” Maddy Alascio explained.

Both Varsity and JV came in 1st, bringing along high hopes for the rest of the season and competitions to come.

“It was a crazy competition with unexpected things happening left and right, but it feels good knowing both teams stayed focused and performed how we needed to,” Sophomore JV captain Abby Slater stated.

The next competition is Saturday, Jan. 23, at Chesapeake High School.  Doors open at 11, come out and support your Bobcats!
