Bel Air Basketball Boys Edged out by Harford Tech

On Friday, Jan. 8, the Bel Air Bobcats Boys Basketball team hosted the Harford Tech Cobras, and fell short in a shootout, 92-90.

It was the highest scoring game of the season for the Bobcats, as they fired on all cylinders and put up 90 points, nearly doubling their season’s best. Unfortunately, they fell short after a comeback attempt. The Cobras owned the first half, as they went into halftime ahead of Bel Air, 52-39.

The second half turned the tables. Both teams exchanged turnovers and made shots, but the Bobcats clawed back with Senior Guard Jahari Carmichael leading the way. Carmichael was on a hot streak during the game, especially in the 4th quarter. He topped his career best in points, by scoring 41. His previous best was 26 points.

Jahari Carmichael, despite having a very good season for the Bobcats, continues to stay humble. “I just stayed in attack mode 100% of the time, and I think that sparked my performance.”

So far, even though it was a loss, this was the best game we have seen from Bel Air all season. We saw them stay toe to toe with a high powered Cobra team, and almost came back to pull off the upset. They left it all on the court, scoring more than any other game so far in the season.

Junior Michael Yetter spoke of the offensive mindset: “We knew we had to score a lot more points. Tech started putting up big numbers, and they couldn’t miss.”

Bel Air currently sits at 3-4 on the season, and will look to bounce back this week with games against Aberdeen and C. Milton Wright. These are important games against the Eagles and Mustangs, as they could help set Bel Air up for a run at the playoffs. They will need your support, so come out and cheer on your Bobcats as they look to advance to a record of 5-4.
