Ice Hockey Boys Fall to Easton Eagles

On Friday, Dec. 11, Bel Air Boys’ Varsity Ice Hockey team faced off against the Easton Eagles at home, losing 6-4.

The Bobcats got off to a quick start in the first period as Sophomore Ben Pheno scored off a rebound just 2 minutes into the game. The lead would not last long as the Eagles responded with a goal of their own from a wrist shot that went top right to tie the game up at 1. With 3 minutes remaining in the first period, the Eagles scored off a rebound to put them up 2-1. At the end of the first period, the score was 2-1, Easton.

When the second period began, the Bobcats drew a quick penalty to put them on the power play, capitalizing as freshman Brandon Javier scored off a wrist shot that went top right to tie things up at 2. A minute later, Easton would get a power play of their own where they would also capitalize off a wrist shot that went bottom left to put Easton back on top, 3-2. With 5 minutes remaining in the second period, senior Colin Dean scored off a wrist shot that went in between the legs of the goalie to tie things back up at 3. The Bobcats got another penalty before the period could end, giving the Eagles another power play which they capitalized on to conclude the second period, with a score of 4-3 Eagles.

“We got off to a fast start in the first period, and from there, it became an uphill, downhill battle all throughout the rest of the first and second period,” said Sophomore Spencer Smith.

Easton came out strong in the third period putting up 2 goals to take a commanding lead of 6-3. With 2 minutes remaining in the game, Sophomore Oscar Richardson scored off a slap shot that went in between the goalies legs, but it would not be enough as the Eagles would take this game by a final score of 6-4.

“We were outplayed by a team we should’ve beaten. But hey, those things are going to happen. We need bounce back next week and get revenge on Delaney,” said Coach Dave Frongillo.

The Bobcats hope to bounce back from their loss and get a little revenge on the Delaney Lions as the Bobcats travel to Reisterstown on Wednesday, Dec. 16.
