Bel Air’s First Ice Hockey Scrimmage Ends with a Loss

Blake Lioi

On Friday, Dec. 4, Bel Air Boys’ varsity ice hockey team scrimmaged the Delaney Lions at home.

It was a brutal game for the Bobcats as the Lions put 3 goals up on the board at the start of the first period. Bel Air was outplayed the whole period until the end when senior Jack Scott snuck in a goal between the goalie’s legs with 2 minutes remaining in the first period.

Before the period concluded, Delaney scored 2 quick goals both by unlucky bounces off the crossbar and the goalie’s blocker, falling into the net. At the end of the first period the score was 5-1, Delaney.

“After letting all those goals in during the first period, we weren’t able to recover and stay in the right positions. From there, it went downhill.” said Freshman Cole Frado.

Delaney wasn’t done yet, as they added 2 more goals at the start of the second period to put them up 7-1. Sophomore Blake Lioi got Bel Air back on the board with a goal off a rebound. Delaney quickly responded with 2 more goals to put the Lions up 9-2. In the third period, Bel Air started to wake up a little when Sophomore Evan Bergquist added 2 goals of his own. Bel Air was too far behind, as Delaney dominated the score board with a final of 9-4.

“We played sloppily in the first and second period. At the end of the game we woke up and started generating offense, but it just wasn’t enough” said Coach Dave Frongillo.

Although it was just a scrimmage, the Bobcats hope to learn from their mistakes and get themselves back in the win column against the Easton Eagles on Friday, Dec. 11.
