The Bel Air Varsity Girls’ Lacrosse team had a great 2015 season. The team finished with a strong record of 11-5.

The Lady ‘Cats started their season with a one goal game against the competitive Towson High School. They only went up from there, beating Fallston High School and North Harford High School—both teams that Bel Air Girls’ Varsity had not beat in previous years. They also came close to beating John Carroll High School and were one goal away (in the last 12 seconds of the game) from beating C. Milton Wright High School, the closest Bel Air has ever come to beating CMW.

Senior Captain Shannon Williams said, “We began the season with high hopes and goals that seemed almost unattainable. As the season progressed, we improved each and every game. Learning from both our wins and our losses, we grew as a team.”

The ‘Cats finished their regular season with an 18-8 win against Harford Technical High School. The team was ready to take on their first playoff game against Perry Hall High School. After winning 18-9, the ‘Cats traveled to Dulaney High School to win a back and forth game 11-9. The following week, they faced Franklin High School at home and won 16-2. Two days later, the team traveled to Catonsville High School to win the Regional Championship with a close game of 12-11. The team then advanced to the State Semi-Finals at Northeast High School against Walt Whitman High School. BAHS won 13-1. The following Tuesday, the Lady ‘Cats traveled to Stevenson University for the State Championship against the defending Serverna Park High School. After an intense game, Bel Air came short, losing 15-18.

Williams said, “Playoffs began and we came out as a confident, aggressive, and strong team with the intentions of winning every game, and we almost did. I could not be more proud of what this team accomplished and the standard that we set for future teams of Bel Air Girls’ Lacrosse.”

Overall, the team was lead in goals by Sophomore Anna Farley, Senior Captains Sam Keesey and Shannon Williams, and Junior Bekah Riley.

Riley said, “Even though we had bumps and obstacles all throughout the season, I felt like our team truly grew stronger after overcoming each one. By the end, we were the family that we wanted to be from the beginning. I wouldn’t have wanted to travel all the way to state finals with any other team.”

The ‘Cats are excited for next season and are determined to keep their streak going and return to State Finals.
