Girls’ Soccer Defeats Cobras and Huskies In Shut Out Matches

On Monday, Oct. 6, 2014, at 6:45 p.m., the Bel Air Girls’ Soccer team defeated the Harford Tech Cobras at home in a 4-0 match.

The Bobcat offense was on fire, scoring 4 goals in the first half to later send the Cobras home. Goal scorers were Freshman Lexi Kraemer, Junior Julianna Portera, Junior Jamie Layfield, and Senior Captain Kayla Klock.

Assists came from Freshman Lexi Kraemer, Junior Gabby Encarnacion, and Senior Kayla Klock.

The second half was primarily a defensive half, as the Bobcats stood strong and held the Cobras to no goals with Junior Andrea Sipos having a solid 4 saves.

After the game Senior Morgan Hollenback talked about the big win, “We came out strong and aggressive in the first half. Our offense did a great job finishing their shots, and defense played collectively as a unit.”

On Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014, The Bel Air Girls’ Soccer team traveled to Patterson Mill High School to take on the Huskies on their Senior Night.

The girls started the game off strong, taking the lead with a goal in the first two minutes of the match by Senior Kayla Klock, with the assist from Freshman Lexi Kraemer. The first half concluded with a score of 1-0 in favor of the Bobcats.

As the second half began, the Bobcats were very determined to close out this game. The beginning of the second half was full of back and forth action between the Bobcat and Husky rivals, but the Bobcat defense played amazing as a unit and held their own.

Junior Jamie Layfield delivered an assist to Senior Kayla Klock 15 minutes into the second half to add another goal for the Bobcats, making the score 2-0.

The remainder of the second half was very aggressive by both sides, with the Bobcats drawing a foul outside the 18. With 5 minutes left, Senior Renie Tsomos took the free kick and buried a ripper from 25 yards for the final goal of the match.

Junior Andrea Sipos played in goal the entire game and racked up a solid 3 saves to help keep the Huskies off the scoreboard.

Senior Captain Kayla Klock was named the Arena Club Athlete of the Week after her amazing performance this week with a total of 3 goals and 2 assists.

Klock spoke about her huge accomplishment, “I am very honored to have been pick as Athlete of the Week but I could not have done it without my team. I’m surrounded by some talented people who all contributed to the success of the team.”

The Girls’ next game is on Monday, Oct. 13, at home against C. Milton Wright High school. Monday night will be the Bobcats’ Senior Night, so come on out and support your Bel Air High School Girls’ Soccer team and their seniors. Go Bobcats!
