Girls’ Lacrosse Advances to Round 2 With Ease

On Wed., May 7, 2014, the Girls’ Lacrosse Team began postseason play by hosting the Kenwood High School Bluebirds in their first round playoff game.

The Bobcats got the scoring started by scoring four goals in a row; Junior Sam Keesey scored the first two for the Bobcats back to back. The next two goals would come from Sophomore Emily McQuay to make the Bobcat lead 4-0, forcing the Bluebirds to call a time out. Freshman Anna Farley scored for the Bobcats coming out of the timeout. The Bluebirds then tallied their first and last goal of the game to make the score 5-1. Throughout the rest of the first half, the Bobcats found the back of the net 7 more times. Freshman Anna Farley tallied three goals during the Bobcat 7 goal streak. Sophomores Emily McQuay and Anna Wehland, Juniors Morgan Hollenback, Shannon Williams and Sam Keesey scored a goal each to help extend the lead to 11 going into halftime.

Coming out of the halftime, the Bobcats continued to dominate on both the offensive and defensive sides of the field, scoring 5 goals and allowing none. Sophomore Natalie Neff and Seniors Jillian Becker and Natalie Decker all helped to put the final 5 nails in the coffin for the ‘Cats. The score ended at 17-1 in the Bobcats’ favor.

“We played really well as a team against Kenwood,” said Freshman Anna Farley. “We have a lot of momentum going into the playoffs and we just need to keep going hard in games and at practice.

“Our first round of playoffs really showed what kind of team we are. We played hard and never gave up. Going into the playoff we will need to continue to play hard and keep doing what we are doing to take us to states this year,” stated Senior Captain Tori Gryglewski

The Bobcats advance to the second round of playoffs and will travel to Parkville High School to take on the Knights at 4 P.M. on Fri., May 9.
