Girls’ Lacrosse Finishes Regular Season with Authority

On Thu., May 1, 2014, the Girls’ Lacrosse Team played their last regular season home game against the Havre de Grace Warriors.

The Bobcats got the scoring started when Freshman Anna Farely scored the first goal of the game. The Bobcats would then go on to score five more goals, making the score 6-0 before the Warriors could score a goal of their own. Senior Tori Gryglewski, Juniors Morgan Hollenback and Sam Keesey, Sophomore Emily McQuay and Freshman Anna Farley each scored once in the five goal run. Sophomore Emily McQuay netted her second goal to make the score 7-1. The Warriors would then score the final goal of the half to cut the Bobcat lead to 5. Senior goalie Lucy Loughlin came out of the first half with two saves.

The Bobcats got the scoring started in the second half when Tori Gryglewski, Shannon Williams, Morgan Hollenback, Anna Wehland and Anna Farely each scored to extend the lead to 12-2. The Warriors scored again to make the score 12-3. Gabi Hall netted the final goal of the night for the Bobcats. Due to the inclement weather, the game would end early and the score would remain at 13-3 in favor of the Bobcats.

“It was a total team win against Havre de Grace,” stated Senior Captain Lucy Loughlin. “We played together as a team and we did what we had to do to get the win.”

On Fri., May 2, the Team travelled to Perry Hall High School to take on the Gators on their Senior Night. The ‘Cats struck first when Anna Farely, Emily McQuay, Anna Wheland, and Shannon Williams each scored goals. The Gators would respond by scoring two goals of their own. Sophomore Emily McQuay and Junior Sam Kessey would add two more goals for the Bobcats to make the score 6-2. The Gators then answered back with a single goal. Sam Keesey would score one more goal for the Bobcats before the half to make the score 7-3.

Junior Shannon Williams opened the second half, increasing the lead to 5. Then Farely and McQuay netted two more goals for the Bobcats to extend the lead to 7. The Gators would score their final two goals of the game to make the score 10-5. Gabi Hall, Emily McQuay and Sam Keesey eached scored to secure the 13-5 Bobcat win. Senior Jamie Bittner tallied seven saves for the Bobcats.

“I think we played incredible and really proved that we can hold out ground in the division,” stated Senior Captain Brianna Kelly.

On Monday May 5, 2014 the Girls’ Lacrosse team finished their regular season play at Harford Technical High School to take on the Cobras on their senior night.

The Bobcats came out of the gate strongly, going on a 5 goal run started by Senior Danni Wilson. The next four Bobcat goals would come from Freshman Anna Farley, Sophomore Emily McQuay, Junior Shannon Williams and Sam Keesey. The Cobras would then call a time out in effort to stop the Bobcat momentum. The Bobcats would come out of the time out with a goal from Junior Sam Keesey, but the Cobras would tally their first and second of the game in response.  Freshman Anna Farley and Junior Shannon Williams would then score back to back goals for the Bobcats to make the score 7-2. Freshman Gabi Hall would then score for the Bobcats after a Cobra goal, making the score 8-3. The Bobcats would tally one last goal before the half coming from Junior Morgan Hollenback.  At half time, the score was in favor of the Bobcats, 9-3

Coming out of the second half, Freshman Anna Farley got things rolling for the Bobcats, making the lead 10-3. The Cobras would answer by score two of their own, cutting the Bobcat lead to 5. The Bobcats would not let up; Freshman Gabi Hall, Sophomore Emily McQuay and Junior Shannon Williams scored the next three goals to extend the lead again to 8. The Cobras would then score their last goal of the game to make the score 13-6. The ‘Cats scored three more goals to secure the win; goals came from Farley, McQuay and Williams. The final score was 16-6 in favor of the Bobcats.

“We came out strong and continued to play our game the entire 50 minutes,” stated Junior Shannon Williams. “This game proved that we are ready for the playoffs and that we have the ability to go further than we ever have. As a team, we need to continue to play with the same intensity and drive like we have the past few games.”

“We worked really well as a team against Harford Tech,” stated Senior Lucy Loughlin. “The defense came up with some really huge stops and our attack handled the ball really well. This was a great win for us going into playoffs and if we keep working hard, we will go far in the playoffs this year.”

The Bobcats finish their regular season play with a record of 6-5 and will start their post season play on Wed., May 7, at home against Kenwood High School at 5 P.M. at Bobcat Stadium.
