The Bel Air Bobcats Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse Team traveled to Patterson Mill to take on the Huskies in a heated match-up on Fri., April 25, 2014. The Bobcats came from behind to claim victory by a score of 12-6.
The game got off to a rough start for Bel Air, as the Huskies scored with 6:39 left in the first quarter to make the score 1-0 , and not long after the Huskies scored again to go up 2-0. The attack continued as Patterson Mill scored a third consecutive goal with 2:22 left in the first.
The Bobcats were down 3-0 entering the second quarter and things didn’t get any better for the ‘Cats. The Huskies scored once again with 7:47 left in the second to push the score to 4-0. The Bobcats finally started to turn the tide when Junior Austin Tredinnick scored to cut the Huskies lead to 3, making the score 4-1. The Bobcats were able to come alive following their first goal as Junior Tom Pfeiffer scored four consecutive goals with 5:47, 5:07, 3:28, and 2:55 left before half to give the Bobcats a 5-4 lead. The Huskies were able to come back and tie the game before half, knotting the score at 5 with 58 seconds left. Pfeiffer then scored the final goal of the half with 25.3 left to make the score 6-5 in favor of Bel Air.
The Bobcats and the Huskies continued to battle the next quarter; the score did not change until Junior Brad Casale scored with 2:41 remaining in the third to put the Bobcats up 7-5. Not long after, Pfeiffer scored his 6th goal to push the Bobcats lead to 8-5.
The Bobcats were up 8-5 entering the fourth quarter. Senior Captain Joey Creaghan scored to make the score 9-5 with 7:46 left in the game. Next, Senior Captain Calvin Fleagle scored to extend the Bobcats lead to 5. Casale was able score once again with 5:38 left in the game to make the score 11-5. The Huskies tried to rally as they scored with 3:39 left in the game to cut the lead to 5 again. Casale scored the final goal of the night to put the Bobcats up 12-6 with 3:18 left in the game.
Tom Pfeiffer led the Bobcats in scoring with 6 goals. Calvin Fleagle led the ‘Cats in assists with 7 on the night. “It was awesome assisting my teammates for goals. Great game and a great rivalry. It’s always fun,” said Fleagle.
Senior Captain Spencer Stachowiak said, “We kind of dug ourselves a little hole early in the game going down 3-0 in the first quarter. They had a great goalie and he was making big saves throughout. Our Coach Chuck Muir really did a good job getting us refocused, and from that point on we went to work, chipping away the Huskies lead. The second half we came out and knew what we had to do.”
Joey Creaghan had a good summary on the night and had a great outlook for the future of the ‘Cats Lacrosse team. “Tonight we proved we have the heart to do big things this year by coming back from being down 4-0. We all have confidence in each other and we are looking forward to the playoffs.”
