Girls’ Lacrosse Falls Short to Rival C. Milton

On Thu., April 22, 2014, the Girls’ Lacrosse Team traveled to C. Milton Wright High School to take on the Mustangs.

The Bobcat defense held the Mustangs scoreless for the first five minutes of the game before the Mustangs broke through the tough Bobcat defense to score their first of the game. Then, the Mustangs would then go on a seven goal run to make the score 8-0, leaving only 15 minutes left in the half. Sophomore Emily McQuay would then break the eight goal run to score the first and last Bobcat goal of the game, with the assist coming from an assist from Junior Sam Keesey to make the score 8-1 with 5 minutes left in the half. The Bobcat defense would then hold the Mustang attack scoreless for the remainder of the half with, keeping the score at 8-1.

Coming out of the half, the Mustangs would tally a goal to extend their lead 9-1. Due to the pending weather and various flashes of lightning and thunder, the referees would call the game and both teams would have to wait thirty minutes until they were allowed to resume the game. The teams were directed into the school to wait.

The game resumed after about forty minutes of waiting. The Mustangs came out and scored the first two goals to extend their lead to 11-1. Junior Shannon Williams would then win the ensuing draw to win possession for the Bobcats and take the ball into the attacking zone. Freshman Gabi Hall came off a pick from the top of the eight meter arch and receive a pass from Senior Cassidy Jones to tally the Bobcats second goal of the game, making the score 11-2. Sophomore Natalie Neff and Junior Morgan Hollenback double teamed the ball and force a Mustang turnover. Junior Sam Keesey picked up the ground ball to get the Bobcat transition going to get help get the ball into the attacking zone. Freshman Anna Farely cut through the eight meter arc to score the last goal for the Bobcats, making the score 11-3 with 5 minutes left in the game. The Mustangs scored two more goals to secure a 13-3 win over the Lady Bobcats.

“We played very well as a team,” stated Senior Lucy Loughlin. “We had a couple breakdowns on both ends of the field. We followed the game plan we had been working on in practice and we all left everything on the field.”

“I think we played well against C. Milton Wright,” stated Senior Captain Brianna Kelly. “Everyone fought hard and we didn’t give up until the second. It was definitely an improvement since last year.”

The Bobcats move to 2-5 on the season and will honor their ten seniors on Thursday at Bobcat Stadium at 6:45 P.M. against cross town rivals, Patterson Mill.
