The Bel Air Bobcats Girls’ Basketball Team took on the Patterson Mill Huskies at Bel Air High School on Jan. 15, 2014. The Lady Bobcats fought hard in a game that was filled with many different twists and turns, eventually leading to a 64-48 loss.
The game got off to a strange start as a technical foul was called on the Lady Bobcats before the game started due to a protest by the coach of Patterson Mill. The Huskies made both free throws to take a 2-0 lead to start the game. The Lady Bobcats battled back and took a 5-4 lead with 6:08 remaining in the 1st quarter. The 1st quarter ended with excitement as Samantha Barnett was fouled taking a three pointer, and hit two of the three foul shots. The pair of free-throws cut made the score 16-12 in favor of the Huskies.
The Lady Bobcats played a strong 2nd quarter as they fought hard to keep the score close. The ‘Cats were able to cut the Patterson Mill lead down to 20-17 with 4:00 remaining before halftime. Rene Tsomos hit a three pointer to tie the game at 22 with 2:25 left in the half. However, the Huskies took a 26-23 leading entering halftime.
The 3rd quarter started off quickly as both teams were running up and down the court, trying to gain the advantage. The Bobcats were down by 7 when Tsomos hit another three pointer to make the score 34-38.
Despite a strong fight in the first three quarters, the Huskies pulled away in the 4th, scoring 20 points and playing tough defense to make the final score 64-48.
Annalise Paylor was the Bel Air’s leading scorer, scoring 12 points for the Bobcats. “Anytime we lose a game by that margin it’s disappointing. [The opponent] being Patterson Mill makes it even worst. I need to make sure that I prepare my players better next time,” said Coach Skelton.
The Lady Bobcats’ next game will be on Jan. 17 at Aberdeen High School against the Aberdeen Rams. The game starts at 6:45 P.M.
