Boys’ Basketball Loses Tough Battle to Patterson

On Jan. 9, 2014, the Bel Air Boys’ Basketball Team traveled to Patterson Mill to take on the Huskies in an extremely physical and intense game.

The game started out as expected with both teams gaining early leads. Tommy Keller led the attack scoring 10 points in the first quarter, but sat out due to foul trouble. The first quarter ended with a score of 20-19 Patterson Mill.

The Huskies began to gain momentum in the second quarter, going on a 10-2 run in the first 2 minutes. Patterson Mill’s obvious height advantage began to come into play when the Huskies got numerous offensive rebounds and second chance points. The Bobcats began to get into foul trouble near the end of the second quarter, accumulating 10 fouls before the half to give the Huskies foul shots on a foul. Taking advantage of the Bobcat’s foul trouble, Patterson Mill ended the first half on a 20-8 run. The score at the half was Patterson Mill 40, Bel Air 27.

Coach Getz tried to motivate his players at half time telling them “This is truly a team effort. We have 4 leading scorers in 6 games thus far so let’s show it.”

The third quarter held much of the same for the Bobcats as leading scorer Tommy Keller picked up his 4th foul with 7:30 left and was forced to sit the rest of the quarter. The Bobcats could not compete with the Huskies height advantage and lost the battle under the rim numerous times. The Bobcats did pull within 8 in the 3rd quarter after Sophomore Jahari Carmichael hit a 3, but Patterson will was relentless, retaliating with 2 3’s of their own.

The Huskies pulled away in the 4th quarter, never letting their lead dwindle less than 10 points. The final score of the game was 64-45.

Junior starter J.D. Bruck said about the game, “It was a rough, physical game. We didn’t match their intensity and didn’t hit the shots we needed to. We’re a very good team we just need to make a few more shots and play better basketball.”

The Bobcat’s next game will be on Fri., Jan. 9 as they travel to Elkton to take on the Rams.
