The Bel Air Bobcats Girls’ Basketball Team took on the Fallston Cougars at Bel Air High school on Mon., Dec. 16. The Bobcats came into the game looking to pick up another victory.
The first quarter of the game started off slow, but with 3:32 left, Junior Samantha Barnett hit a three pointer to put the Bobcats up 7-1. The Bobcats played great defense in the first quarter.
The score entering the second quarter was 8-1. The second quarter favored the Bobcats as Junior Rene Tsomos hit a two point jumper with 5:30 left in the quarter to put the Bobcats up 12-3. The Cougars started to get close but it didn’t matter as Rene Tsomos made a four point play with 3:04 left on the quarter to put the Bobcats up 16-11.
The Bobcats led at half time 22-15. The Bobcats continued to be sharp as Junior Mariah Thomas made a three pointer to put the Bobcats up 28-15 with 6:07 left in the third quarter.
The score entering the fourth quarter was 38-23. The final score of the game stood at 46-33 with the Bobcats coming out on top. The leading scorers for the Bobcats were Rene Tsomos with 17 and Mariah Thomas with 8 points.
“[I] love to beat Fallston, it always feels good to pick up a win against them, and we always look forward to playing them,” Coach Skelton said after the game.
The Bel Air Bobcats Girls’ Basketball Team took on the C. Milton Wright Mustangs on Tue., Dec. 17. The Bobcats were looking to pick up another victory against a rival after defeating Fallston the night before.
The Bobcats wasted little time taking the lead as Rene Tsomos, with 6:01 remaining in the first quarter, hit a three pointer to make the score 7-2. The first quarter ended with the Bobcats leading 18-10.
The second quarter was very competitive, as there were multiple ties and lead changes. The game was tied 20-20 with 5:16 and then 22-22 with 4:26 remaining in the quarter. Bel Air was able to take the lead with 3:45 left 24-23. Samantha Barnett made a three point play with 3:22 left in the quarter to make the score 27-23. The Bobcats entered the half leading 30-29.
The Mustangs wasted little time fighting back in the 2nd half, as they took the lead with 7:05 in the Third quarter, 31-30. The Bobcats were able to tie the game behind Freshman Megan Barnett’s basket to tie the game up, 33-33. The Bobcats were able to gain the lead with 3:52 left in the quarter, 38-36. Sophomore Natalie Neff was able to give the Bobcats a boost with a three point play with 51:8 seconds remaining to make the score 48-39. The score entering the fourth quarter was 49-41, Bobcats.
The Bobcats took over in the fourth quarter of the game scoring, 24 points. Samantha Barnett hit a three pointer with 6:31 remaining in the quarter to make the score 54-45. Not long after Samantha’s three pointer, Rene Tsomos hit a three of her own to extend the Bobcats lead to 57-45 with 5:57 remaining in the quarter. To top it all off, Rene Tsomos converted a three point play with 4:16 left to give the Bobcats a 60-47 lead.
The Final score was 73-53; the top scorer for the Bobcats was Rene Tsomos with 23 points. “I have to give credit to my team mates for continuing to give me the ball with great passes,” Tsomos said after the game on her 23 points. The Lady Bobcats’ next game will be at Joppatowne on Dec. 19 at 6:45 p.m.
