The Matt Rutherford Volleyball game took place as scheduled Tuesday night, Dec. 3. This year was different though, as the Students finally were able to come out with a victory. The students fought hard throughout the entire game to come out with the victory.
The game was a big success as people came to root on the teachers and students. The game was a close one throughout. It was a best three out of five game format. The students took the first set 25-19, but the teachers rallied back to take the second set 25-15. With three sets remaining the students held on to take the third set 26-24. The final set was very competitive but the students finally came out on top win with a score of 25-21.
Following the match senior Matt Robertson, who served for the final point of the match, stated, “It was nerve racking, and there was a lot of pressure on me. It felt good to come out victorious in the event; The whole event was a lot of fun overall.”
Despite the fact that the students in the end were able to come out on top, the teachers seemed to enjoy themselves and were good sports. “It was fun and they (the students) won, but it was about time that they did and it was all for a good cause,” said Mr. Doyle after the game.
Rien Hachmann, the Student Team Coach, was proud of the student team victory. “It’s awesome to be the first student team to beat the teachers. The students played really well and I had a lot of fun coaching and being a part of a great cause.” The student team battled back and forth with the teachers with many great rallies. Rien was pleased with the turn out of the game. “I had a great team, even though most of them don’t play volleyball there was a lot of talent. There was a great support from the crowd, overall it was a success.
Be sure to come out from the student /faculty basketball game that will be played later this winter.
