Girls’ Soccer Falls Just Short at State Semis

On Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, the Bel Air High School Varsity Girls’ Soccer team was defeated by Huntingtown High School with a final  score of 1-0 in the State 3A Semi-Final.

The game was fight to the finish, and each team possessed a fantastic amount of talent which was showcased on the field of Essex Community College in Rosedale. The game was a defensive standoff. Each team came close to finding the back of the net on multiple occasions but were ultimately stonewalled by the opposition’s defenders. Several promising runs were made by each team but they all came up empty.

The game’s only goal came at the 31 minute mark of the second half. A Huntingtown direct free kick from roughly 30 yards out from the goal managed to squeeze pass the Lady Bobcat defenses and into the net. It’s safe to say the free kicker was just as surprised at the outcome of the shot as the Lady Bobcats.

With time winding down, the Lady Bobcats were giving all they had at tying the game and forcing overtime. They came close several times but in the end, they came up empty.

The loss marks the end of a phenomenal run for the Lady Bobcats Soccer team. They made a push deep into the playoffs but, like the end of their last game, came up just a bit short.
