The Bel Air Bobcats Golf team traveled to Geneva Farm’s Golf Course for the Harford County Public Schools Championship Tournament on Tuesday, Oct 15, 2013. The Bobcats won the tournament for the second year in a row. This completed a clean sweep for the Bobcats as they won the UCBAC, District 7 and now the HCPS tournament.
The Bobcats were led at the tournament by Team Captains Nick Loiodice, Tyler Newton and assisted by Cody Smith. Nick Loiodice carded a 2 over par round of 74 on the day to win the top individual Harford County Golfer award, while Tyler Newton shot a 3 over par 75 on the day. Loiodice headed into his last hole of the day 16 a par 5 down by one to Newton and he knew it. Loiodice came up clutch and eagled the hole to beat Newton by one. Cody Smith put together a good round of 79. The Bobcats not only were the only team to have players in the 70s, but took the top three spots at the tournament with Loiodice taking 1st, Newton 2nd and Smith 3rd.
Junior newcomer Samantha Barnett played great round of golf. Barnett’s work was rewarded as she shot a 97 to come in second place for the Lady’s Individuals at the tournament. Bel Air’s Spencer Comitz took third while Rachel Lozzi came in fourth for the individuals.
The Bobcats other scores that contributed to their team win were very good, as well. Kevin Morrissey shot an 86 on the day with Connor Small not far behind with an 89 on the day. Sam Tepelides contributed a round of 93 to the team.
The Bobcats total score on the day was 496 while close behind was Fallston with 511 and North Harford coming in with a 524. The Bobcats were told before the tournament by Coach Doyle, “Fallston and North Harford are gunning for you guys. This is the first time I’m coming into this tournament nervous. So let’s play smart golf and win this thing.” The Bobcats Golf Team answered the call.
This completed the Bobcats second undefeated season in a row. The Bobcats look to continue their winning ways at the State Championship on Oct 28-30 at University of Maryland College Park Golf Course.
