Varsity Football Bests the Warriors in Battle

On Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, the Bel Air High School Varsity Football team defeated the Rising Sun Warriors by a score of 42-6.

Before the game a moment of silence was held for Coach Huryk’s Father-in-Law, Morris Jones, who had passed away Tuesday after a long battle with cancer.

With a special cause to fight for, the Bobcats started off the scoring quickly; Devin Boweres ran for a 45 yard touchdown on just the fourth play from scrimmage. The Bobcat defense also jumped off to a quick start, forcing a fumble on the next drive that was returned 80 yards for a touchdown by Caleb Rollins. After two successful two point conversions, the Bobcats led 16-0.

Miguel Valdes scored two touchdowns in the Bobcats commanding win. His first score came on a 31 yard run in the first quarter. Valdes then ran for another touchdown shortly after the start of the second quarter, a 14 yard run. Devin Bowers scored once more for the Bobcats before the half, making the halftime score 36-0.

The lone touchdown of the second half for the Bobcats came from a 46 yard touchdown pass from Matt Wallace to Ben Webber. A late touchdown by Rising Sun made the final score 42-7.

Despite the poor weather conditions, Bobcat Nation still packed into Bobcat Stadium in the rain.

The Bobcats’ next game is Homecoming. They will take on the Aberdeen Eagles at Bobcat Stadium at 7 p.m.
