Cheerleading Wins Competition For a Good Cause

On Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, the Bel Air High School Cheerleading team traveled to Perry Hall High School to compete in the Perry Hall Invitational Competition. This was the first competition of their season. In supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the cheerleaders wore pink and white bows with the breast cancer symbol on it.

In the varsity awards, Bel Air High School took first place. Second place went to Perry Hall High School, and third place went to Patapsco High School.

For the junior varsity awards, Bel Air High School took first place as well. In second place was Patapsco High School. Third place went to Perry Hall High School

“I simply can’t put it into words. You were incredible and the epitome of what a team is. I can’t wait to see what you will do this season,” said Coach Jess Groom to the Bel Air High School Cheerleading team to the team after the competition.

At the competition, t-shirts were sold for twenty dollars. One dollar from each shirt sold was donated to a Patapsco High School cheerleader who is undergoing treatment for brain cancer. All of the t-shirts were sold out. There was also be a 50/50 raffle. The money raised went to the cheerleader and her family. The person who won the 50/50 declined to take the money and gave it to the cheerleader.

“I teared up a little and it was nice how everyone at the competition helped out the cheerleader,” said Tesse Sobka, captain of the Bel Air Varsity Cheerleading team about what was done for the cheerleader.

The next competition will be October 23, at Harford Tech High School at 6:00. Tickets will be sold prior to the competition for five dollars.
