Girls’ Soccer Shocks Fallston in Thriller

Monday night, September 23rd, the Bel Air Girls’ Soccer team hosted cross-town rival Fallston in a much anticipated match here at Bel Air. The Lady Bobcats entered the match with a record of 4-1, needing to win this game to stay undefeated in conference play. In an 80 minute defensive showcase, the Lady Bobcats would do just that, outlasting Fallston for a 1-0 victory.

Offense came at a premium in this game, as the defense of both teams stepped up Monday night. With both teams’ offense being shut down, the game remained tied 0-0 at the halftime whistle. The second half held much of the same, as the defenses continued to dominate. Bel Air’s goalie Andrea Sipos collected 8 saves for the Lady Bobcats. Although this match was mainly defensive, the offense would shine in the last two minutes.

With about 1:30 left to play, the Lady Bobcat offense made a run, a run in which they would take a permanent lead. With just 1:17 left on the clock, Natalie Decker scored the game winning goal assisted from Shannon Williams. As time continued to wind down, Fallston was unable to answer with a goal of their before the whistle blew.

This big win for the Lady Bobcats lifted their record to a strong 5-1. The Girls Soccer team will finish this week with another UCBAC matchup Wednesday at North Harford.
