Football Runs Away From Indians

On Friday September 6, 2013 the Bel Air Bobcats Varsity football team opened up their regular season on the road against the North East Indians with a 53-0 victory.

The Bobcat offense rushed for a total of 343 yards in the game.  Devin Bowers led the team as he carried the ball 8 times for a total of 100 yards averaging 12.5 yards per carry scoring 2 touchdowns.  Miguel Waldes rushed for 80 yards, averaging 16 yards per carry.  Cameron Watts scored two touchdowns and ran for 61 yards.  Brad Casale rushed for 39 yards and scored 2 touchdowns.   Matt Kunkel also ran for a touchdown while A.J. Davis rushed for 41yards.  Jack Lewis had both Bobcat receptions, including Bel Air’s only receiving touchdown.

The Bobcat Defense held the Indians scoreless in the victory, holding the Indians to just 94 total yards. Mike Marshall lead the team in tackles with 6 solo and 3 assists.  Caleb Rollins and Brendon Yetter each recorded 4 solo tackles.  C.J. Simmons and Zach Paugh each had an interception in the game.

Bel Air is one of 8 conference teams that are undefeated after week one. The team realizes that their week two opponent, Elkton High School, will present more of a challenge to them.  Coach Huryk, the varsity football head coach, says, “Elkton is always a tough team and they are always well prepared for us. We believe it will be a tight game with the final score being a one or two touchdown difference.”
