With a final record last year of five victories and five losses Bel Air High School’s Varsity Football team is ready for the 2013 season.
Mr. Huryk has been Head Coach for 4 seasons now, but has had a total of ten years coaching football. On Friday, August 30, 2013, the Bel Air Varsity football faced Joppatowne and Sparrows Point in a three team scrimmage. In the first part of the scrimmage the Bobcats defeated Joppatowne by a score of 14-0. In the 2nd scrimmage Bel Air played a close game against Sparrows Point, which once again ended in victory with a final score of 7-6.
Coach Huryk said that the football team will be addressing some mental errors the following week at practice.
Coach Huryk said, ”Overall our day to day goal is to get better every day, obviously, but as far as record goal we’d like to be better than we were last year, one, and two we’d like to, as a coaching staff, produce better young men, that’s what we do.”
With 19 returning players, and ten of them being significant contributors from last year, the football team is prepared for this season. This year’s Varsity Captains include Clay Brumbaugh, Cyler Crawford, Miguel Valdes, Matt Wallace and Ben Webber.
Clay Brumbaugh stated, “The team created three main goals for this season and that is to, one, make it to the play offs, two, become an actual team, and three, give something for our school to take pride in.”
The first game will be at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 06, 2013, at North East High School in Cecil County.
