Lady Bobcats Cruise Past Cougars

The Bel Air Bobcats Girls’ Varsity basketball team took on the Fallston Cougars on Tuesday January 8th at Bel Air High School. The Bobcats showed a lot of hustle and determination on the court, resulting in a 35-32 victory.

The Bobcats were winning 17-16 going into half time. They continued to fight throughout the 3rd quarter. Fallston was winning 19-17 with 3:08 left in the 3rd quarter when Junior Jamie Bittner hit a three pointer to put the Bobcats back up 20-19.

The Bobcats were trailing the Cougars 22-20 entering the 4th quarter. They had fallen behind 24-20 when Senior Connor Hanley hit a second chance bucket to pull the Bobcats within two points of the Cougars.  Hanley played a great game, recording 15 points. The Bobcats had the game tied at 28 with 3:38 left in the 4th quarter.  With 2:12 left in the 4th  quarter, Junior Cassidy Jones hit a three pointer to put the Bobcats up 33-28.

“I was happy after I made the shot knowing it put us in the lead,” Jones said after the game.

The Bobcats end up holding on and winning the game 35-32. Junior Jamie Bittner had 7 points and Junior Cassidy Jones had 5 points.

“I’m always happy to get a win, especially if it’s against Fallston because they have presented such a challenge for us every year,” Coach Skelton said after the win. “It was nice to see the girls lay it all out there, inspired by the seniors on our team who have now gotten their first win against Fallston (in their high school career)”

The Bel Air Bobcats Girls’ Varsity Basketball team suffered a tough loss against the Patterson Mill Huskies last week. The game took place at Patterson Mill High School Thursday January 4th.

The Bobcats were led in scoring by Junior Cassidy Jones and Freshman Natalie Neff, who both had 7 points on the night. It was not enough to overcome the Huskies, however, who led 22 to 7 at half. The Bobcats end up losing the game with score of 22 to 44.

“We played well even though the score didn’t show it,” Cassidy Jones said after the game.

“We played well,” Coach Skelton said following the loss. “The defense played great, we held Patterson to 25 points below their season average, but we just can’t put the ball in the hole.”

The next game will take place at Bel Air High School as the Bobcats take on C. Milton Wright at 6:45pm. Come out and support your Lady Bobcats!
