The Bel Air Bobcats’ Girls’ Soccer team overcame a 1-5 start to the season as they went on to win 5 of their next 7 games, one loss and one tie in the other two, and achieved a seasonal record of 5-5-2.

The Bobcats were led by senior captains Teresa Berg and Brooke Lorber. The Bobcats had five seniors on the team who will be graduating this year:  Berg, Lorber, Erin Swam, Hannah Starnes, and Sarah Dempsey. Two freshmen included Natalie Neff and Jamie Layfield. Sophomores on the team were Leah Lozzi, Morgan Hollenback, Kayla Klock, as well as leading goal scorer Shannon Williams. Juniors on the team  were Bailey Gasior, Brittany Decker, Brooke Tauber, Caroline Lozzi, Jordan Layfield, Karlie Scherba, Morgan Rusinko, Natalie Decker, and Taylor Hensley. The Bobcats scored 22 goals in the regular season. Junior goaltender Karlie Scherba tallied 4 shutouts on the season.

The highlight performance of the season was the upset the Bobcats pulled off by beating a ranked North Harford team 2-1. The offense broke out and scored more than half the total season goals in a state playoff second round matchup against Digital Harbor by a score of 12-0.

Congratulations to the Bel Air Bobcats on their season. They’re a very young team and the future looks very promising. They have a lot of talent and there will be many seniors with experience next year. A championship could be in this team’s future very soon.
