On May 16th the Boys’ Lacrosse team defeated Howard High School in the 3A/4A North Regional Championship Game by the score of 14-8. The victory capped off a wild string of games for the Bobcats as they traveled to 4 different schools in 8 days and each time came home with a win.
Bel Air’s first win came against Mergethaler-Mervo on May 5th. In that game the team cruised to an easy 21-1 victory. On May 11th the Bobcats were on the road again to travel to Kenwood. Once again the Bobcats’ opponents proved to be no match as the team came away with a 17-1 win. After two easy wins the lacrosse teams’ May 14th match-up against Dulaney promised to be significantly tougher.
Earlier this season the Bobcats were beaten by Dulaney by the score of 6-5. Following that game many members of the team stated that they felt that they were better than Dulaney, and the loss was the result of a couple of bad breaks in the game. On May 14th the Bobcats backed up that statement by knocking off Dulaney by the score of 12-10. The team then moved onto the Regional Championship game against Howard; a game that they won by the score of 14-8.
The Bobcats now face South River High in the State Semi-Finals. Just like Dulaney High School, the Bobcats have already played, and lost to, South River High School. South River is considered one of the top teams in the state, but that this point in the season so are the Bobcats. Only the best teams in the state are still playing lacrosse. The game will take place at Franklin High School on May 18th at 8:00. Tickets for the game will be $6. The winner of the game win head on to the State Finals to face the winner of the other semi-final game that is between Churchill and Westminster. Hopefully the Bobcats can continue their winning ways, and pull the upset, and play for the Maryland State Championship.
