Loss to 49ers cost Steelers 1st Place in AFC North

Although the Pittsburgh Steelers are 10-4 this season, they are 0-3 against the Harbaugh brothers. This includes a road loss to the San Francisco 49ers and two losses to their divisional rivals, the Baltimore Ravens.

Before the game, John Harbaugh was asked if he was going to give his brother Jim any advice on beating the Steelers. His response was, “I’m sure there will be some of that. The truth is coaches do that around the league based on best interest and things like that. I know for a fact a lot of coaches have spent a lot of time talking about us before they play us. So, I’m sure we’ll try to help him in some way if we can. But it’s not really our game; it’s not really our concern.”

All three losses were nearly identical. In all the losses combined, the Steelers turned the ball over 13 times and committed 21 penalties. They were limited to scoring 10 points a game while allowing their opponents to score 26 points a game.

This loss allows the Ravens to maintain first place in the AFC North and the 2nd seed in the AFC. If the Steelers would have won they would have had a chance to control their own destiny to win the division and for home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. With the loss, however, they are currently the 5th seeded wildcard team.
