RG3 Wins 2011 Heisman

Robert Griffin, III of Baylor University won the 77th Heisman Trophy for being the most outstanding college football player in the country. The award was presented to Griffin on Saturday, December 10th, in Best Buy Theatre in Times Square and was nationally televised on ESPN.

Griffin (jr.) was the 10th quarterback to win the award in the last 11 seasons and the 32nd quarterback to win the award all-time. Griffin was the first player from Baylor to ever win the award after leading the team to a 9-3 season. In addition to winning the Heisman, Griffin also took home the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year.

This season, Griffin completed 267 of 369 passes for 3,998 yard which put him over 10,000 for his collegiate career. He threw for 36 touchdowns and 6 interceptions to have a nation-leading and record breaking 192.3 passer rating. In addition, Griffin ran the ball 161 times for 644 yards and 9 touchdowns. Griffin broke nearly every career Baylor passing record over the last three years.

Griffin led Baylor to a birth in the Alamo Bowl against Washington on December 29th.

“If I can get everybody in the crowd to laugh it can make my speech a whole lot easier,” said Griffin to start his Heisman acceptance speech after an unexpected win over the favorite, Andrew Luck, of Stanford University.

Griffin is undecided if he will forego his senior season at Baylor and enter the NFL daft next April.
