Full Evacuation From Bel Air Middle School Due to ‘Sensor Malfunction’

Friday Morning, March 17, 2023, a full evacuation to the basketball courts took place allegedly due to an apparent ‘sensor malfunction’ of newly installed alarm system. Bel Air Middle School students and staff fled from the building upon the sudden alarm, and emergency vehicles arrived to the scene shortly after.

Eigth Grader Carson Smith said that, “The evacuation was annoying because it made me stay out in the cold”.

A Bel Air High School teacher present at the middle school during the evacuation corroborated the information. “[It seems] they had a new fire alarm system installed recently. They believe it was a false alarm but with the new system the fire department is required to show up…we are inside now”.

Students and staff are now safely back in the building and have returned to learning.
