Journalism Field Trip to the Newseum

Caroline Schumann

On Feb. 21, 2017, Bel Air High School’s Journalism classes took a field trip to the Newseum in Washington D.C.

Six floors of nothing-but-facts, the Newseum held a plethora of exhibits that tailored to anyone’s interest. Some of the exhibits in the building included pieces of the Berlin Wall, a News Story and First Amendment Gallery, an NBC News Interactive Newsroom, and a Pulitzer Prize Photographs display. My favorite exhibit was the Pulitzer Prize Photographs because each of the photographs were so different from one another and they had a description right next to them explaining the story behind the image.

“My favorite part of the Newseum was that there was so much to do!” Says Julian Vazquez, a sophomore journalism student. “The virtual phones, debating room, and the 911 facts and pictures was really cool.”

After two hours of a fact-filled trip, it was time to go to eat at Dave and Buster’s to relax and have fun playing games.

Concluding such a fun day of touring the Newseum, and eating and playing games, it was time to get back on the bus and start heading back home! I had a lot of fun on this trip and would definitely recommend checking out both of these amazing places!
