On Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017, the LI Super Bowl took place in NRG Stadium in Houston.

The New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons played a game that made history for being the first-ever super bowl game to play into over-time.

Former President George H.W. Bush made a special appearance for the coin toss before the game, and Lady Gaga performed for the halftime show.

The Patriots trailed by 25 points in the third quarter, leading fans to think the Falcons had this game in the bag. The Patriots then recovered, making the score an even 28-28. This was the first time in super bowl history that the game has gone into over-time.

The New England Patriots displayed the greatest comeback in super bowl history, beating the Atlanta Falcons 34-28.

Tom Brady, quarterback for the New England Patriots, made history by being the first ever quarterback to win five super bowl rings. Along with setting records, Brady’s 466 passing yards surpassed the previous record of 414 set by Kurt Warner in Super Bowl XXXIV. James White set a record with his 20 points and 14 receptions.

Brady said that, had the team not done their job, the outcome could have been very different.

The emotions and the turn of the game started when Julian Edelman made a spectacular catch for a first down, somehow grabbing the ball off his opponent’s leg after being under pressure by three opponents when the ball tipped into the air.

“I couldn’t believe the Edelman catch,” Brady states. “It was one of the greatest catches. I don’t think he knows how he caught it. We’ve been on the end of a few of those, it was spectacular.”

Overall, Super Bowl LI was a game of setting records and making history.
