The Long-Lasting Tradition of Rose Archers

On June 2, 2016, the Class of 2016 will be graduating and, as tradition, before they enter and leave, they must first walk through the rose arches; the tradition of having juniors hold these archers has been occurring for over fifty years.

This year there are thirty two members of the Junior class who are holding one of the nine rose arches; there will be four people to every arch. Before the Class of 2016 can walk under the beautiful arches filled with flowers, donated by local florists, the juniors spend all of graduation day assembling them.

The arches symbolize the passage of the senior class coming together for one final time and leaving, each going their own way. This longstanding tradition has become a focal point of graduation for both the class graduating and the class that will soon be following in their footsteps.

“It has been such a great experience being a rose archer,” Amanda Cajigas, a Junior Rose Archer explains, “And it is amazing to be a part of a tradition that has been a part of our school for over fifty years!”

Graduation is made a little more special each year as the graduating class is able to walk through the arches and see the people, who they have gone to school with for most of their lives, holding them with a smile on their faces; knowing, without a doubt, that their high school alma mater is in the most capable of hands.
