Prom-a-Llama

On April 25, the class of 2015 celebrated the night they’ve been waiting for since first stepping into Bel Air High School—their senior class prom, ‘This Is Our Moment.’

The dance was held at Martin’s East in Middle River, a venue that the high school has used for years. The space accommodated for everyone’s needs with drinks, dancing, and socializing. It was set up with the dance floor in the middle of the ballroom, tables surrounding and a buffet and drinks at the back. Plus, there was a Lifetouch photo booth in the hallway that friends lined up for all night, taking goofy pictures with props and hats.

People crowded the dance floor all night until the floor was cleared for the announcement of the prom court. Mr. Smith, the senior class advisor and prom advisor, called up seniors voted on by their peers that made prom court. The female nominees for prom queen were Rachel Lozzi, Leah Lozzi, Maia McGovern, Kayla Klock, Katie Allison and Amanda Tran. The male nominees for prom king were JD Bruck, Brendan Yetter, Jason Dinsmore, Dan Hopkins, Hunter Gerard and Andrew Visconti. The queen (the female on the court with the most votes) was Amanda Tran, the senior class treasurer and the king (the male on the court with the most votes) was Andrew Visconti, the senior class president.

The seniors danced to the selected prom song, “Iris” by The Goo Goo Dolls. The DJ played many favorite songs for the rest of the night, including songs like “Uptown Funk” and “Who Run the World.” As midnight got closer, people started leaving to head to the after party being held at the Bel Air Athletic Club. The last song was, fittingly, “Last Dance” by Donna Summer.

As if the night didn’t go late enough, students traveled to the BAAC to participate in fun games and eating and socializing. Another DJ played music that could be heard no matter where you were in the complex. Activities included a mechanical bull, toilet scooters, inflatable twister, card games, carnival games and the pool was open for a few hours. All of the activities allowed students to get tickets to put into a raffle for prizes.

The ground level had over 60 prizes to enter into ranging from things like gift baskets or big prizes like an iPad mini or a flat screen TV. Around 3 am, the prizes were drawn and seniors took home the prizes as their names were drawn. There was even a grand prize drawing for a car, which was won by Judy Yurkofsky.

Prom this year was a success! Everyone had a safe and fun time that will provide them with memories and a time to look back on and remember their senior year as a great one.
