This 2014-2015 school year, Bel Air High School met our new gym teacher and Varsity Field Hockey assistant coach, Mrs. Gostomski. As of recently, Mrs. Gostomski is being inducted into the Harford Community College Hall of Fame.

The 1995 Harford Community College Field Hockey team was the only team at HCC to ever win the National Junior College Athletic Association Championship. Mrs. Gostomski was not only a member of the team, but was also a captain during her sophomore year.

The game was a hard fight with a final score of 2-0. Mrs. Gostomski scored one of the goals and assisted the other. The year prior, the HCC Field Hockey team traveled to New York and lost the championship 2-1, and did not end up reaching their big focus of 100 goals. Sadly, they were left with 99 goals. This lead Mrs. Gostomski to stay one more year and eventually win the national championship.

Out of every athlete to come through HCC, Mrs. Gostomski was one of only eight alumni to have two consecutive years as an all American athlete. She also played in a national championship game 3 out of 4 years of her college career.

Mrs. Gostomki stated, “[Playing sports] gives you a sense of accomplishment, gives you amazing confidence in who you are, and that kind of goes along with being a physical education teacher with sports and trying to teach that to students. Giving them confidence to try something learn it and the ability to excel.”

This 2014 season, Mrs. Gostomski assisted in leading the Bel Air High Girls’ Field Hockey Team to state semifinals with Mrs. Zorbach.

Coach Zorbach said, “I am very proud of her accomplishments and the pride she has brought to our county. She has definitely impacted the field hockey community.”

The students of Bel Air High School are proud to have Mrs. Gostomski as a part of their staff and congratulate her on her success.
