Officer Krause and His Explorers Clean Up the Courtyard

Officer Krause, the resource officer here at Bel Air High School, has been working hard with his team of Explorers. They spent their time in the courtyard cleaning up the area, getting rid of all the weeds and dead plants.

Over 20 people from both BAHS and BAMS participated in the clean-up of the courtyard. Dead trees, bushes, and flowers were removed, fresh dirt was applied, new fish were welcomed to the pond, and new flowers were planted. The courtyard looks just as beautiful when the school first opened years ago.

Officer Krouse’s team of Explorers are kids who are in training for becoming cops once they graduate. It gives them an idea of what a real police officer does on a daily basis. They complete activities to help the environment, practice self-protection and other projects that reflect what a police officer’s duties are on an average day.

“We had several wheel barrels; an assembly line of kids shoveling mulch on to the ground and others bringing more mulch in from outside. My volunteers worked very hard and some of my co-workers from the BAPD also helped out,” Krause explained about what the explorers did in the courtyard.

The explorers worked hard until it was dark outside. Everyone was at the school until 8 p.m. pulling weeds, fertilizing the dirt, and mulching the cleaned areas. The courtyard looks amazing, and within a short amount of time, all weeds were gone.
