The Womans’ North Bay rugby team remained undefeated in the 2014 season, and was invited to the National High School Rugby Championship in Pittsfield, Massachusetts where they placed 8th in the nation.
This was the first year the Team has ever been invited to nationals. The Tournament began on Sat., March 17. North Bay played their first game against the 3 time returning champions from Fallbrook, California.
North Bay had an undefeated season with only 2 tries scored against them, ranking them first in the Rugby Maryland Championship Finals where they won against Eleanor Roosevelt High School 67-0.
Before every game North Bay played this season the team chanted “I believe that we will win,” creating the theme for this season as “I Believe”. North Bay played like they “believed,” allowing them to achieve a very successful season.
Senior Rien Hachmann explained that, “it takes a special group of girls to make it this far and I’m so proud of the success that we have had. We played against the premiere teams in the country. The competition doesn’t get any better.” Hachmann summed up her experience with North Bay. “I’m really sad that this is my last season but there is no better way to go out than being ranked in the top ten. We worked really hard and we knew we could do special things from the beginning and to see the season play out the way it did was really amazing.”
