Prom Proves to be Once in a Lifetime

On Sat., April 26, 2014, Bel Air High School held their annual Senior Prom at Martin’s East in Essex, Maryland.

Students arrived at prom in limos, cars and party buses at 8 P.M. where they were greeted by photographers snapping pictures as they entered the venue.

At the Prom, students were able to dance to a variety of music, eat food and socialize with classmates. To capture everlasting memories, Prom was videotaped by multiple cameramen who roamed around the dance throughout the night.

Midway through the dance, the 2014 prom court was announced. After the court was announced, Prom King Ben Barsam and Prom Queen Caroline Lozzi led the Class of 2014 into their official Prom song, “You’re Gonna Miss This” by Trace Atkins.

Prom concluded at 12 A.M., but the night was far from over as most students chose to go to the After-Prom party held at the Bel Air Athletic Club.

The Athletic Club was all ready when the seniors arrived at 12:00, after leaving Martin’s East and changing into recreational clothes. There were many different activities to participate in at the Athletic Club. If you didn’t feel like doing anything strenuous, you could head over to the tree house and eat food. The buffet was endless and consisted of a variety of choices including sushi, Chick Fil A, Twisted Pretzels, chicken wings, and many other great snacks. Food was available all night and was completely free.

The entirety of the Athletic Club was reserved just for Bel Air High School; there wasn’t a space unoccupied by activities. Some of these activities included a mechanical bull, a moon bounce obstacle course, toil seat racing, and gigantic game of twister on a blow up mat. Also there were basketball courts to play on as well as racquet ball courts to use; the swimming pool was open for use, and carnival games were held in the game room.

As the night came to a close, the winners of the door prizes and raffles were announced. Students had to be present to receive their prize, so all the seniors all gathered in the lobby. Some of the big ticket prizes that could be won included a flat screen TV, a laptop, a refrigerator, a Kindle Fire, a Go Pro, a Galaxy Tablet, and baskets filled with tickets for fun things to do in Maryland and even a car, a Mazda 3 to be exact.

The winner of the car, Hannah McVey, said, “I wasn’t even in the lobby when my name was called. I was up by the treehouse and I heard a big commotion downstairs. When I walked down the stairs one of my friends grabbed me and said that I won the car! I was really excited. I usually never win things!”

“The after prom was a lot more fun than prom, the music was better, there were more things to do, and the food was really good. It was so fun!” Senior Ashley Florio commented.

Thank you to all the parents who planned the party, especially Denise Aulton and Rene Vazquez, and all the parents who stayed up all night to chaperone the fun!
