Bowl a Spare to Show You Care

On Sun., April 6, 2014, an event was held at the Forest Hill Lanes bowling alley in order to promote Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Child Abuse Prevention Month is held to protect against the epidemic of child abuse. During the month of April, multiple organizations will host events in order to promote the cause, such as the “Bowl a Spare to Show You Care,” the event held at the bowling alley on Sunday. An additional goal of Child Abuse Prevention Month is to support families and protect children in general.

The event began at 3:00 P.M. and lasted until 5:00 P.M. Live music and colored lights helped to make the event more festive and exciting. An information booth passed out pamphlets to the participants so they could also support the cause.Knikky Palmer, a participant in the event, believed, “it’s a great cause that these people are trying to advocate, the bowling is a great way to spread the word. It’s a great way to spend your afternoon, and it’s all around just a great time.”

More information on the Prevention Month can be found  at www.childwelfare.gov. The website includes a calendar of small things you can do for a child each day in order to show your support.

Overall the bowling event was a big success. It set a good tone for the rest of the activities planned throughout April. If you cannot attend any events this month, you can still show your support by helping children in need and donating money to the various organizations.
