Faces of Freedom Discusses Slavery and Liberation

On Apr. 1 through May 10, 2014, the Faces of Freedom exhibit will be held at the Hays-Heighe House at the Harford Community College.

The Faces of Freedom exhibit is about slavery in America and how the slaves acquired their freedom. There are many different events that are going to be displayed at the exhibit. Some of the events include the Twelve Years a Slave book discussion, the Susquehanna to Freedom Play, the film screening of the movie Glory, and much more.

One of the main events, the Susquehanna to Freedom play, will be about the Underground Railroad and how three enslaved Harford County residents might have followed the Susquehanna to their journey to freedom. This event will be held on Apr. 4, and visitors must also go online at http://harford.universitytickets.com to obtain their free reservation ticket.

The coordinator of the Hays-Heighe House, Iris Leigh Barnes, stated, “Our hope is that Faces of Freedom provides forums for frank, honest and respectful dialogue and critical thinking about freedom and slavery.”
