Multiple sclerosis, often shortened to MS, is a chronic, often disabling disease that attacks the central nervous system, which is made up of the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves. Symptoms may be mild, causing numbness in the limbs. But they can also be severe, causing paralysis or loss of vision. The progress, severity, and specific symptoms of MS are unpredictable and vary from one person to another. Today, new treatments and advances in research are giving new hope to people affected by the disease. Over 6,500 people in Maryland alone are suffering from MS.

Walk MS is a part of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The walk aims to connect people with MS and those who care about them in order to raise money toward awareness and treatment of the disease. The walk has been a tradition since 1988 and since has raised more than $770 million toward research and programs to curb MS.
