Decoy Dunk to Raise Money for Local Programs

On Mar. 22, 2014, the Bel Air High School Core Club will be participating in the 3rd annual Decoy Dunk at Flying Point Park in Edgewood.

The event was originally set for Feb. 22 but was rescheduled due to heavy ice on Otter Point Creek. Core Club participated previously in the Polar Bear Plunge but decided to stay more local this year and chose the Decoy Dunk.

Registration for the Dunk begins at 10 A.M. and the event starts at 11 A.M. Proceeds will benefit youth activities in Harford County, including the Boys & Girls Club and Patterson Mill Key Club. Prizes are awarded for best costume, and highest total pledge amounts for individual participants and groups.

Co-President of Core Club Bekah Riley said, “at least 50 percent or more of all proceeds of the Decoy Dunk will be going to the Boys & Girls Club. I really like that because the money is spent more locally and will go to more charities and less administrative costs.”

Only a few students have signed up so far and a meeting will be held on Thursday morning at 7:10 A.M. in the career center (guidance office) for anyone who is participating or thinking about signing up.

Kelbey Egerland, Co-President of Core Club said, “I think it’s fantastic that people want to participate in the Decoy Dunk because it is such a great cause. We need more kids to sign up so we can raise as money as possible for the Boys & Girls Club of Harford County. A lot of people depend on that program and we should help them out on whatever way we can. There’s really nothing to it, all you have to do is bring a waiver and some money then jump in some ice cold water. It’s going to be an awesome day I can’t wait!”

Come to the meeting Mar. 20 and help raise money for Harford County and come to Flying Point Park on March 22.
