Bel Air High School recently swept several wins from the Young Authors Writing Contest.

Students from all over Harford County were entered in a writing contest to test their abilities as authors. There were two categories for each Grade, short story and poetry. Thirteen BAHS students placed in these categories.

In Grade 10 poetry, Joy Mackenzie placed 1st, Madison Konski placed 2nd, Nicholas Napolitano placed 3rd, and Abbey Byer received an honorable mention. In Grade 10 short stories, Mary Talbard placed 1st. In Grade 11 poetry, Ely Lozada placed 1st, Carrie George placed 2nd, Quinn Baumeisser placed 3rd, and Olivia Streett placed 4th. In Grade 11 short stories, Madison Krchnavy placed 2nd. In Grade 12 poetry, Rebecca Davidson placed 2nd and Olivia Goldstein placed 3rd. Finally, in Grade 12 short stories, Jash Shah placed 2nd.

“Bel Air wins something every year,” Mr. Taylor, creative writing teacher, says. “I’m so proud to teach these students.”

The recent snow delayed the announcement of the winners, but students were notified two weeks ago.

“I’m glad I took Mr. Taylor’s advice to enter,” says Nick Napolitano, one of the 10th Grade writers. “This means a lot to me and I was excited to share the news with my family.”

A recognition ceremony is to be scheduled to congratulate the winners.
