Red Cross Hopes for 65 Units of Blood in School Drive

Bel Air High School is hosting a blood drive for the American Red Cross Association on Mon., Feb. 24, 2014.

To participate in the blood drive, you must be at least 16 years old. If you wish to participate, you must turn in a permission slip signed by a parent that allows you to donate your blood while in school. You can turn in your permission slips in room B207. The drive will begin at 7:30 A.M. and end at 1:00 P.M.

“I will sign the person up once the permission slip is [turned in]. It is a first come first serve basis,” Mrs. McDonough states.

The American Red Cross has a goal to receive 65 units of blood. Blood donations help millions of patients in need. To make the journey from “arm to arm,” every unit goes through a series of steps and tests to ensure that it is as safe as can be. Donating blood can make a huge impact and benefit on a person’s life.

“Having a blood drive at our school seems pretty cool,” freshman Megan Stocum said about this year’s blood drive. “This year I won’t be able to contribute, but I’m glad that my school takes time to participate in these types of foundations.”
