On Tuesday, November 26, 2013, Bel Air High School will transform into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, for one night only, as the SGA hosts the 2nd annual Quidditch tournament. Bobcat Nation is encouraged to come and watch the game and cheer on their favorite Hogwarts team. Admission price is $5.00, and concessions will be open. All proceeds are going towards Mrs. Lauren Cody’s family. Mrs. Cody is a Special Education teacher at Bel Air High School and her husband, Brendan Cody, recently passed away following a battle with cancer. The SGA is donating the money to help with her kid’s Christmas presents this year, in addition to any other expenses.

Quidditch is a fictional sport that originates from the Harry Potter series, involving a complicated set of rules. The game is played with three balls: the bludger, quaffle, and the snitch. The tournament will have 20 minute games, and the championship game will be 30 minutes. There are ten players on the field, and 3 positions: one keeper, one seeker, and eight chasers. The keeper is in charge of blocking the hoops in which the chaser tries to throw the quaffle into to earn points. There are also bludgers (football players) who will try to tag the chasers playing with the quaffle. The seeker’s job is to search for the golden snitch, and once the snitch is found, the game is over and the first team to find the snitch earns 150 points. The golden snitches are being played by three cross country runners: Trent Tolley, Kevin Porter, and Ethan Brito.
“Ravenclaw is the greatest house of all time, we’re the Ray Lewis of Quidditch. I am so pumped.” Ravenclaw player and senior, Sam Tepelides said.
The magic begins at 7 P.M. in Bobcat Stadium. See you there!
